Entertainment Industry Rant

October 13, 2009

A record to me (and a lot of the people from my generation) is about being taken to another world.

A band can energize me, get me excited, blow me away live.
But I have yet to have that band put me in a different world when I see them live.
They don’t put me in another place mentally. Maybe emotionally…but not mentally.

Recorded music does that. Film does that. A painting does that. Some books do that. It’s art!!
Watching the filming of a movie does not.
Going to a live concert does not.

They’re two separate worlds.

And all of this…ALL of this that we know and love…
that is funded, promoted, publicized….
All of this is the Entertainment Industry.

And if we didn’t have this industry…we would surely kill ourselves in a mundane all too real reality.
But we’re America. We don’t want to live in a depressing reality.

The Entertainment Industry is thriving creatively in recorded music and live music.
But the important question seems to be…what generation(s) are signing off / are oblivious?

It’s certainly not mine. (college)

VMA’s 2009

September 15, 2009

In the end they all got the publicity they deserved

(*whether they deserved publicity at all).

And the people who eat this up are the ones who have become lost in how to separate the words “musician”, “performer”, “model”, and “talent” in an Entertainment Industry that MTV has blurred together

(*sadly that’s too many people)

Putting this aside…I could care less. Give me something real.
